MCNC Statement on FCC v Consumers’ Research Ruling
MCNC President and CEO Tracy Doaks today issued the following statement in response to the opinion issued today by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Federal Communications Commission v. Consumers Research.
“Minutes ago, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Federal Communications Commission’s Universal Service Fund. This is a significant victory for equity, digital opportunity, connectivity, and communities across North Carolina and the nation. Most importantly, this is a massive sigh of relief for many of those MCNC serves and their constituents.
At MCNC, we are keenly aware of how the Universal Service Fund powers meaningful access to broadband and technology in classrooms, libraries, healthcare facilities, and communities that would otherwise be left behind. USF helps ensure no one is excluded from opportunity because of where they live.
We applaud the Court’s affirmation of this essential program. We remain committed to helping our partners—from schools and colleges to governments and healthcare systems—as they continue to expand access, close gaps, and strengthen outcomes.
This ruling affirms what we’ve always known and believed: that broadband is the infrastructure of opportunity..”
