RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (Dec. 3, 2019) –MCNC, the non-profit operator of the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN), today announced Jean Davis has resigned as president and CEO. She will remain in the position into next year to help provide a smooth transition for her successor.

“On behalf of the MCNC Board of Directors and all our constituents, I want to thank Jean both for her leadership and for her service to the MCNC community,” said MCNC Board Chair Hope Williams. “Since 2014, Jean has played a critical role in the development and success of the organization, and while we will miss her as CEO, we send with her our warmest wishes and thanks as she steps back from her professional career to care for her elderly parents in Boston, Mass.”

During her tenure at MCNC, Jean led the organization in a number of key accomplishments that support the important mission of leveraging MCNC’s vast, open access broadband infrastructure to create unprecedented opportunity for North Carolinians. These include:

  • Expanding the network to over 4,000 miles of NCREN-operated fiber through 87 counties in North Carolina
  • Growing connections to more than 1,027 endpoints including schools, community colleges, universities campuses, libraries, hospitals and public safety institutions.
  • Collaborating with major telecom and technology firms to leverage MCNC’s open access fiber network for connectivity in rural areas of the state
  • Launching a new suite of cybersecurity tools and managed services that help community anchor institutions manage an ever-growing number of cyber threats
  • Establishing direct connection to commercial clouds via Internet2 cloud infrastructure

The Board of Directors and senior staff of MCNC already have begun the executive search process.
