Tommy Jacobson

Tommy Jacobson is MCNC’s vice president and chief operating officer, with over 32 years of experience with the organization. During his tenure with MCNC, he has held progressive roles supporting the operations, engineering, sales, and management functions of the nonprofit.
As the chief operating officer, he is responsible for the teams that architect, build, and operate the North Carolina Research and Education Network over statewide fiber distribution facilities, providing connectivity services to millions of public sector users in North Carolina. This support covers the execution of contracts that support and grow revenues related to the University of North Carolina System (17 public universities), North Carolina Community College System (58 public community colleges), North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (115 LEA’s and 200+ charter schools), North Carolina Telehealth Network (230 unique institutions), and the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (26 unique institutions, e.g., Duke University, Wake Forest University, Elon University, etc.)
Tommy graduated from North Carolina State University in 1994 with a B.S. in electrical engineering.
