The North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN) is a world-class 2,600-mile fiber network supporting high-speed connectivity for education, research, health care, public safety, and other community anchor institutions throughout North Carolina. NCREN provides high-speed Internet and related services, and is a platform for delivering video technologies as well as customizable, cloud-based services for critical applications.
MCNC offers a 5,000 square-foot data center in RTP with 24x7 power, cooling, network, and expertise to ensure your IT infrastructure is always up and operating. The data center has redundant physical and geographical connections to the NCREN backbone, 24x7x365 photo badge access, security, alarms, monitoring, and support staff 24 hours a day. MCNC also has a data center presence at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) in Rosman, N.C., offering an expanded range of sophisticated networking and hosting capabilities in western North Carolina.
NCREN Video Services operates on H.323 standards-based IP, Cisco TelePresence CTS-based IP, and Movi-Jabber. We use video conferencing codecs supported by a Cisco/Codian MCU as well as equipment required for Cisco TelePresence CTS and Movi-Jabber soft client video service.
Mediasite Course and Event Capture Infrastructure Service allow the video and/or screen capture of any event to be streamed live and/or archived for future viewing. This service provides the ability to record and deliver your online learning, interactive lectures and multimedia presentations automatically, as well as provides live streaming for events and archiving with exceptional functionality.
Client Network Engineers (CNE) are available to work with MCNC clients to help design, implement, and support their network and security infrastructure. The Video Engineering staff can be scheduled to make an onsite assessment of your video facility.
Security is an essential part of today’s technology-driven society. Securing an organization’s networking infrastructure requires employees and institutions alike to proactively manage and protect personal and organizational assets. MCNC manages security threats and responses in the context of business risks and is strengthening its ability to rapidly detect and respond to security threats on the NCREN network.
Through negotiated licensing agreements, MCNC customers can purchase various software products at reduced rates.
MCNC is committed to sharing information and educating the NCREN community on topics related to our tools and services as well as helping to secure and promote technology related training and development content of interest to the community.
MCNC provides NCREN Connectivity and Client Network Engineering services to public K-12 under contracts with the North Carolina Office of Information Technology Services and the Department of Public Instruction.
MCNC provides services to the 58 Community Colleges by way of the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) MCNC contract.
