Collaboration Across Three Continents
January 31st - February 2nd 2007
RTP, NC

MCNC will be hosting G-Lambda, Phosphorus and Enlightened Computing research teams for a face-to-face meeting to discuss collaboration plans. The goal of this event is to allow these three teams to formulate an action plan for collaboration of optical networks and grid middleware across three continents. This meeting will be attended by videoconference from NSF in Washington DC; Bonn, Germany; Barcelona Spain and Pisa, Italy. The plenary session is open to all while the remaining sessions are working sessions for the involved researchers. The format for this event is as follows:

  • 1/31, Morning - Plenary, Introduction from G-lambda, Phosphorus and
    Enlightened
  • 1/31, Afternoon - Middleware and Security
  • 2/1 - Control Plane and Network Testbeds Descriptions
  • 2/2 - Driving Applications and Finalization of collaboration plan

The main objectives of this meeting are:

  1. Gain an understanding of the three research projects.
  2. Establish a work plan for our 3-way collaboration.
  3. Develop two common interfaces to request resources:
    • An API for all grid resources
    • An API to request Lightpaths from domain network managers
  4. Interconnect our testbeds.
  5. Decide on a strategy for a demo of
    SuperComputing 2007 (maybe GLIF 2007).

We are excited about the "Collaboration Across Three Continents" and, if you have received an invitation, we sincerely hope that you will join us.
